We hereby declare the commencement of Alaya Partners. We are two business students exploring the world of finance and the stock market. We will invest in opportunities we find attractive through our meticulous research and unique perspectives.
By dissecting current events and monitoring the market cycle, we hope to make continuous improvements to our investment strategy, gain insights into the chaotic equity market and make a lot of money.
We employ a value-oriented approach to the US equity markets. We do not define value narrowly e.g. Price to Book, Price to Earnings ratios. We are on the lookout for growth in companies and sectors because growth is a form of value as
well. Taking a page out of investors we look up to, our principles are as follows:We will only invest in companies that we understand. We will look for good management, favorable long-term prospects, and the right price. We will constantly
remind ourselves of the cyclicality and herd mentality in the market.
"Worldly wisdom teaches that it is better for reputation to fail conventionally than to succeed unconventionally."
Our funds are entirely from our own pockets, which means we will not face any pressure from investors, allowing us to make decisions based completely on our research and beliefs. We have the option to take unconventional bets that go
against the prevailing sentiment. (Fund managers we feel your pain but will not share your agonies.) We enjoy high flexibility due to our small AUM. We can invest in small cap stocks that large institutions do not find meaningful. Additionally,
we can also react to the market quickly and execute orders even in the after-market. We are less concerned about quarterly performance due to our long time horizon of investing. All of our decision-making processes will only consider
factors affecting the long-run functioning of our fund, which we hope will prevent us from myopic judgments.
While generating satisfactory returns is one of our primary goals, as college students, we want to gain exposure to the often irrational stock market. The temporary ups and downs of our investments do not worry us because each fluctuation is a
precious learning opportunity. We will seek to grasp the essence of the equity market relentlessly as we embark on this challenging but rewarding journey. Cheers!
